'Tales From The Borderlands' Release Date And Spoilers: Telltale Games 'Borderlands Pre Sequel' To Be Told From Two Perspectives By Two Main Characters [VIDEO]

The popular "Borderlands" series has decided to ditch the first-person shooter genre for an episodic adventure in the upcoming "Tales From The Borderlands" developed by Telltale Games.

The game takes place between the events of "Borderlands 1" and "Borderlands ," hence the term pre-sequel.

"Tales from the Borderlands" puts you in control of two main characters: Rhys and Fiona. The characters are forced to work together by a mysterious stranger looking to open the Vault of the Traveler.

The problem is Fiona and Rhys cannot stand each other. The pair has a history of bad blood, and each character recounts the past from their point of view. Thus, players will witness the story from two different perspectives. Like "Rashoman" it is up to the player has to figure out the real story.

Telltale demoed the opening of "Tales from the Borderlands" at this year's E3. The demo introduced the principal characters and showed off the framing device, combat and dialogue. Since the series deals with stories and perspectives, Rhys told his tale first.

Rhys is a company man who works for Hyperion. He was a real contender for Handsome Jack's spot, but the job went to Hugo Vasquez, a slick talking, fancy suit wearing company jerk voiced by Patrick Warburton.

Tension runs high when Vasquez has a one-on-one meeting with Rhys to rub the job in his face. Telltale's signature dialogue options are in tact, but they are peppered with Borderlands' sense of humor, which works to great effect. During the meeting, Vasquez takes a phone call and mentions a "vault key." This catches Rhys' fancy and he endeavors to figure out exactly what Vasquez's play is, and the story goes on on from there.

There should be no doubt that Telltale is channeling the spirit of the "Borderlands" series for "Tales from the Borderlands." The game is shaping up to be a great marriage between the Borderlands sense of humor and the Telltale approach to episodic adventure games.

Stay in the air. That's the first tip in the latest video previewing the upcoming shooter RPG Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, called "Handsome Jack's Tips For Surviving On The Moon!"

As usual, the tongue-in-cheek humor from the "Borderlands" series shows up again in a video teasing the new game. The video highlights the main difference this entry in the series has compared to past games: it takes place on a moon. That means low-gravity jumps, freezing conditions and space monsters.

The video features six tips from Handsome Jack, which provides a look at some new maneuvers characters can perform, some new enemies, new weapons to be used and the powers of two of the four new playable characters: Wilhelm the Enforcer and Athena the Gladiator.

Both were non-playable characters in past "Borderlands" games who interacted with the protagonists, but are now finally in players' hands. The other two player characters are Nisha the Lawbringer and Claptrap the Fragtrap, the little robot who provides some of the humor in the games and has become a mascot for the franchise.

The next Borderlands game may well release on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 as well as other platforms. Speaking on a gaming television show Tony Lawrence and Matt Armstrong discussed the upcoming Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and explained why they were concentrating on bringing the title to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. According to Armstrong, the franchise director for Gearbox, the developer thought it would be unfair to make players have to buy new consoles in order to play the game. He explained: "Moving it on to next-gen and requiring people to buy new hardware to play the middle entry in a trilogy feels a little disingenuous and we sort of want to respect that."

Meanwhile Lawrence confirmed that although Gearbox had only confirmed that Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel would only be coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, it was possible it could later see a release on the latest consoles. "I guess we're full on developing the PS3, 360 and PC game," said Lawrence. "All the Borderlands 2 players are playing on those consoles. That's the choice they've got. So we want to reward those guys. If fans say 'hey, we'd really like this on a next-gen console', well, we'll think about that, but right now we're concentrating on the consoles we know."

"Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel" "Tales From The Borderlands" will be released for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 14.
