Barclays Premier League: Ugo Ehiogu to lead the Tottenham Hotspur

Coach Ugo Ehiogu was appointed to lead the Tottenham Hotspur in the Under-21 side.

The said coach was a former Aston Villa and Middlesbrough defender who worked in a part-time basis for the Spurs Academy over the latter months. He will be assisted by Matthew Wells, who was a former Academy player that now steps up from coaching the club's Under-15 side.

Ehiogu enjoyed a successful career at Villa and Middlesbrough - been capped four times by England. He appeared in Barclays Premier League over 355 times and tasted victory of League Cup with each side over 15 years in the English top-flight.

He replaces Chris Ramsey, who guided Spurs to the Barclays Under-21 Premier League final back in 2013 before moving forward to become Tim Sherwood's assistant coach to the leading team last season. He left White Hart Lane only last month.

The 41-year-old coach and his charges will be competing in the top tier of the next season's Barclays Under-21 Premier League and will be playing their home matches at White Hart Lane, Hotspur Way Training Center and Stevenage FC's Lamex Stadium.

The matches for the 2014/15 Barcays Under-21 Premier League will be published next week.

On Wednesday, Spurs declared former captain Ledley King will be the part-time coach of Under-18 side.

Tottenham finished 12th of the 22 teams in the under-21 league in 2013/14 as Chelsea's youth people grabbed the title.

"Since hanging up my boots one of my passions has been taking my first steps into elite coaching, with experiences at both club and international level - and it has been somewhat eye opening."

He added: "It is clear from looking at the results of the England teams over the summer in the Under 20 and Under 21 tournaments that there is a problem with the game in this country. One of the main issues is that England do not have a DNA which outlines how they play."

"This is not a new thing. I played for England at U21 and senior levels and did not know how England were supposed to play, other than to pass and move ."
