'Doom 4' Release Date And Trailer: Bethesda Reveals Highly Anticipated Sequel At QuakeCon [VIDEO]

Last week was QuakeCon, the convention that celebrates games from the developer id Software. The biggest, if not only, news from QuakeCon was the reveal of "Doom 4," the long-awaited sequel to the classic gaming franchise.

The original "Doom," of course, was one of the original first-person shooters, the first first person shooter if you like.

Now, "Doom 4" is getting close, and while no official release date has been announced, a new report says the game will be out in 2015, on PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4.

The game, like previous installments of the franchise, is set on a space station in Mars where mankind is doing teleportation experiments taht accidentally open a portal to Hell and flood the station with all manner of grisly, demonic creatures.

"Doom 4" is running on a new engine, and is has much more of a vertical aspect to it than previous "Doom" games- jetpacks and powerful jumps will be available to the player.

The aspect of "Doom 4" that seemed to draw the most praise is the inclusion of finishing moves- normally associated with fighting games and not first-person shooters. According to PC Gamer, the player can perform all kinds of grisly kills on demonic enemies; however, the enemies can also do the same to the player.

Pete Hines of Bethesda recently spoke to MCV about the upcoming game, "The highly anticipated Doom 4 has recently been presented to fans at QuakeCon 2014 in Dallas, Texas. Bethesda has revealed some gameplay footage for fans who were lucky enough to attend the event, but the footage is not available for anyone to see online. Since we have no way of knowing what the gameplay looks like, we have to go off of the opinions from people who were there to see it."

It has been a long time since the release of "Doom 3" and many things have changed. They are planning to release the new Doom title on the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. "Doom 4" should hit stores some time in 2015, but the exact release date is not yet known.

"Doom 4" will follow the same storyline where you are fighting off an invasion from Hell, and you will start outside the Union Aerospace Corporation research facility. The UAC is located on Mars and it's basically a place where they perform teleportation research for military purposes.

Hines went on to say "We are going to have to prove that this is something that's going to be fun and different that you need to pay attention to. That has to be our default position, we can't be: 'It's Doom, of course you're going to play it'. But that just makes us work harder."

Check back often as "Doom 4's" release date gets closer.
