NVIDIA Tegra K1 Release Date: ‘World’s Fastest Chipset’ Powers Shield Tablet, Targets More Devices; Will It Be Enough To Beat Snapdragon 805?

NVIDIA Tegra K1 release date: The "world's fastest chipset's" battle against the Snapdragon continues. After powering the Xiaomi Mi Pad, the very first tablet from the company called the "Apple of China," NVIDIA Tegra K1 eyes to run more devices.

"It's another worldly combination of 192 supercomputer-class GPU cores, incredible graphics horsepower, and extraordinary power efficiency," according to a description from the NVIDIA website. "For the first time ever, you can experience extraordinary GPU-accelerated performance without sacrificing power consumption. Game, browse, watch, and create with the blazing performance of the universe's most advanced-and greenest-mobile architecture."

With its positive reviews and results from various bench tests, this processor is still struggling against the Snapdragon mainly because its competitor powers Samsung, one of the biggest technology companies in the world. And for its next target users, the Tegra K1 is going for the gamers with the release of the Shield tablet.

After its release this July in the US/Canada market, the Shield tablet is seen as a monster device that aims to please hard core gamers who are after portability at the same time a powerful gaming experience. And with its 2.2 GHz Quad Core NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor, 8-inch 1920×1200 multi-touch IPS display, and 2 GB RAM, it delivers so far.

NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang declared, "If you're a gamer and you use a tablet, the NVIDIA Shield tablet was created specifically for you ... It delivers exceptional tablet performance and unique gaming capabilities to keep even the most avid gamers deeply immersed, anywhere they play."

The Shield tablet is available with a 16 GB or 32 GB internal memory, which retails at $299 and $399, respectively. It is set to be launched in Europe on August 14th, while more regions will follow by the end of this year.

Furthermore, there are also rumors that the Microsoft Surface line will have the Nvidia Tegra K1 under the hood. Fingers crossed for this processor as it continues its battle against the Snapdragon.
