Upcoming Samsung Phones 2014: Galaxy 'Alpha' Will Be First Samsung Smartphone To Get Metal Body, Is It Enough To Beat 4.7" iPhone 6?

Several days ago, we were excited to report about one of the upcoming Samsung phones for 2014 that will certainly stand out in spite its rumored midrange specs.

That is because the Android-powered handset will be the first Samsung smartphone to get a metal body.

For the past couple of years, the Korean manufacturer has been bashed by Android and even Apple fans for opting to use plastic in all of its phones, including flagships, which arguably make their phones less premium than others.

However, the Samsung Galaxy Alpha is considered a first for the Android phone maker, a giant leap that could be the beginning of a new lineup of Galaxy phones.

In the report, the Galaxy Alpha is set to rival the upcoming iPhone 6, particularly the 4.7-inch version.

However, it is important to note that the upcoming Samsung phone is not a flagship phone in terms of specs. The device will only get a 4.6-inch display, and we assume it will get HD (1280 x 720) resolution.

According to a report by GSM Arena, the Samsung handset will however get some of the premium features of the Galaxy S5 which include the heart-rate monitor and fingerprint scanner.

Other rumored specs include a 32GB non-expandable storage, an Exynos chipset, and LTE support.

In spite these uninspiring specs from Samsung, we expect the Galaxy Alpha to get a huge following considering that it will be the company's first ever metal-clad smartphone. While we were expecting something more premium than this, it is still a decent first step for Samsung who may still be trying to venture into the metal body build for future smartphones.

In the report, the Samsung Galaxy Alpha is said to be unveiled on August 4, a month before the company's new phablet would make its debut. While the previously tipped release date was on August 13, Samsung may have changed it to give it time to make an impact before being overshadowed by the Note 4.
