2014 NBA Free Agency Rumors & Predictions: Shawn Marion To Pacers? Desperate Indiana Meeting With 'The Matrix' In Final Effort To Find Replacement For Paul George!

The 2014 NBA Free Agency Rumors & Predictions are filling up the final slots with veterans on the fringes of their final term. Shawn Marion is no longer as athletic as his "Matrix" days but he can still play defense and contribute to a team.

Marion seems like he's down to two teams: The Cleveland Cavaliers and Indiana Pacers. He has already met with the Cavs, where former nemesis LeBron James called him out to join them.

ESPN has confirmed that meeting:

"A week ago, Marion traveled to Cleveland to meet with Cavaliers general manager David Griffin and new coach David Blatt. Marion and Griffin have a good relationship after their days together with the Phoenix Suns, during which the 36-year-old made four trips to the All-Star Game."

Apparently, they haven't sealed the deal because the Marion met with Larry Bird for the Pacers' pitch.

The confirmation from ESPN as well:

"Marion met with Bird on Monday, after Bird urged the free-agent defensive specialist and former All-Star to come to town to consider signing with Indiana in the wake of the devastating compound leg fracture suffered by Pacers star Paul George."

Larry Bird shares his assessment:

"What I came away with was he's undecided with where he wants to play and what he wants to do,". But he does want to play for a contender."

The 'contender'part is a problem for Bird because clearly, the advantage would fall to the Cavaliers who was recently given the best odds of given the championship by Las Vegas odds.

The Indiana Pacers have a financial advantage because they were awarded the disabled player exception. The details:

"The Pacers ultimately will be granted a $5.3 million disabled player exception by the league in the wake of George's season-ending injury suffered late last month on Team USA duty, so Indiana does have the means to outbid Cleveland. But the Pacers would stray into luxury tax territory if they spend more than $1.7 million of that exception."

The question is, would the Pacers spend more than $ 1.7 million knowing they will not be a contender even with Marion? The short answer is 'no.' If they don't have that much of a financial advantage, Marion would probably chase a title in Cleveland.
