Upcoming Sony Phones 2014: Xperia Z3 Appears In Benchmark, Specs Almost Identical To Xperia Z2

The IFA event in Berlin is already a few short weeks away, and people are certainly waiting for the upcoming Sony phones of 2014, particularly the new flagship dubbed the Xperia Z3.

While it is only earlier this year since Sony announced its current flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z2, it looks like the Japanese phone maker wants to refresh its flagship lineup and bring an improved version of the device just in time for the holidays.

However, according to a recent report by GSM Arena, it looks like the only difference between the Xperia Z2 and the Xperia Z3 will be its model name. The upcoming high-end Android device was reportedly tested on GFX Bench, where the specs sheet unofficially confirms the device's almost identical specs to its predecessor.

As we can see from the specs listed by GFX Bench, the Sony Xperia Z3 may be closer to the Xperia Z2 than we thought. The upcoming phone will have the same 5.1-inch display with Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, 3GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage.

While the image shows a Snapdragon 800 chipset and quad-core CPU clocked at 2.3GHz, rumors surrounding the handset claims a Snapdragon 801 chipset and 2.5GHz quad-core CPU.

Behind the phone still lies the 20.7MP primary shooter which has spanned over two years for the Xperia flagship lineup. In front is a decent 2MP front cam.

The phone will run on Android 4.4.2 and arrives with a number of connectivity features like Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi and NFC. If these rumored specs are correct, we just can not imagine what Sony is thinking in releasing a smartphone identical to its predecessor.

As the Xperia Z3 release date draws nearer, are you getting more excited or are you already waiting and checking out other upcoming devices?
