Cleveland Cavaliers News: Cavs Secure Deal With Veteran Shawn Marion For 1 Year Worth $1.4M Contract

It looks like the latest Cleveland Cavaliers news is bound to bring the Northeast Ohio-based squad closer to the Eastern Conference Finals, or even the NBA Finals for that matter.

After previous reports say that Marion has unofficially agreed to take on Cleveland's offer, the deal pushed through right away ealier today.

In the report by Bleacher Report, the 36-year-old slotman has signed a one-year contract with the Cavs worth $1.4 million, which is a great steal for general manager David Griffin.

The 36-year-old veteran is known for his two-way threat on the floor, whether on the offensive or defensive end of the floor. Referred to as the 'Matrix', Marion should help out on the defensive end, while also spotting up for threes.

During his tenure with the Dallas Mavericks which ended last season, Marion has been the fourth option on offense, and one of the primary defenders on the other end. With no elite center to dominate the paint, the Mavs scattered the floor and tried to penetrate or locate open shooters on the weakside.

The Cavs will surely use Marion's skill set to bring more veteran experience to the young squad. Aside from being able to make post plays and drain threes, the 36-year-old forward can also guard up to three different positions. With lackluster defenders on the Cavs' lineup with Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving, Marion can join forces with LBJ in clogging the paint and forcing oppposing teams to shoot low percentage shots.

With the inking of Marion's deal, Cleveland does not only have its own Big Three, but a bench that has become much deeper in just a few months. Initially, the Cavs are seen as an inferior team compared to the Bulls in terms of bench depth, but with its most recent additions, the rivalry in the East continues to become more interesting.
