Upcoming HTC Phones 2014: Butterfly 2 Announced With One M8 Parts, 13MP Rear Camera, Water-Resistant Body, Is This Phone Better Than HTC's Flagship?

Several weeks ago, we found out that one of the upcoming HTC phones for 2014 will be bound for Japan.

Dubbed as the J Butterfly 2, the device will be offered by KDDI and features high-end specs. In fact, in those reports, the device's specs will closely resemble that of the One M8 flagship.

Now, it looks like the Android-powered handset will also make its way to other markets, particularly those in Asia.

According to a report by GSM Arena, the new HTC handset has been announced by the Taiwanese manufacturer itself and should become available in the next several weeks. Simply named Butterfly 2, the Android device is expected to come at a cheaper price tag compared to the One M8, but most of their specs are identical.

In the report, the device will pack a 5-inch display with Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, a Snapdragon 801 chipset, quad-core CPU, and either a 16GB or 32GB of built-in memory.

Under the hood is Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat and there is a 2,700mAh battery to keep things running for almost a day of moderate use.

The Butterfly 2 also has the same Duo Camera with a primary shooter and a depth sensor at the top. However, the HTC handset gets a 'conventional' 13MP rear camera as opposed to the 4MP UltraPixel sensor of the flagship.

In front is still the 5MP camera for selfies and video calls. If you are a fan of the manufacturer's BoomSound speakers, they will be making an appearance as well.

Interestingly, the device will be water-resistant, which is a feature not seen in the original flagship. In the report, the HTC Butterfly 2 will land in Taiwan on September 2, and should be available in other Asian markets in the following weeks.
