Barclays Premier League: Sean Dyche still positive after the defeat

It is a learning experience for Sean Dyche as he confidently declared that Burnley will stand up after a great fall against Chelsea with a 3-1 score in their first match in the Barclays Premier League.

It has been a tough journey for the promoted Lancashire club as they battled first on the alliance of experts' bet and favorite for the title; after a phase of priced close-season recruitment with Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas to arrive at Stamford Bridge.

Even with the after taste of defeat, Dyche was still optimistic and idealistic to admire his players in giving great performance in Burnley's first Barclays Premier League match since year 2010.

"It's not a sprint; it's a marathon and we know there will be some bumps along the way," he said. "I don't think you can class tonight as a bump. That's the reality of where they are and where we are."

"We know we have to stick to the game plan and we did, and we were trying until the end. There are lots of things that we can look at, and many positives we can take out of the game. Our challenge is not at this end. The journey is different this season. We know who we must take points from."

He added: "We conceded the goal and kept playing according to the way we are training and to the way we want to play. You can't switch off for a second, but for their second you have to hold your hand up sometimes in the Barclays Premier League. There are some players with fantastic quality and Cesc Fabregas is certainly one of them. They [Chelsea] have power, quality, and pace and can hurt you in many ways."

Dyche explained that leading against Chelsea will adjoin to the idea of praising his players and his goalscorer Arfield; he is the midfielder who blended in on a free transfer following his released by Huddersfield Town.

"What a fantastic journey Scott is on," Dyche said. "To think we plucked him out of Huddersfield on a free transfer and arguably he was looking down the barrel of League One. We got him on a free last season and he was fantastic for us. We know he's got a goal in him and he was excellent all night tonight."

"That will build belief in players that they can handle this."
