Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson To Star In ‘Shazam’! But Will The Actor Play Hero Or Villain?

"The Rock" is heading for DC Comics. The Associated Press has reported that actor Dwayne Johnson will star in a film adaptation of 'Shazam.'

Johnson has yet to decide, however, if he will be playing the role of Shazam or the hero's arch nemesis Black Adam.

"I am putting my heart and soul and my bones into this role," Johnson told the AP on Monday.

According to Variety, parent company Warner Brothers had no comment about the upcoming superhero film at the time of Johnson's announcement. The 'Hercules' actor was attending a press event for fans in Mexico City.

Johnson remained indecisive, however, when asked if he would take on the title role.

Johnson told the AP that he is a fan of anti-heroes and admitted that one of his favorite characters from DC Comics is Black Adam.

According to Wikipedia, an early version of Black Adam portrayed the character as a villainous ancient Egyptian and predecessor of Captain Marvel, the original name of Shazam (not to be confused with the Marvel Comics' version of Captain Marvel). Black Adam proceeded to find his way into modern times in order to challenge Captain Marvel.

Over the years, comic writers evolved Black Adam, transforming him into an anti-hero who was out to clear his name.

It is unclear yet which angle the upcoming film will take on the Shazam foe.

Johnson's interest in the film comes as no surprise to fans of "The Rock." MTV reports that Johnson had previously planned to star in a version of the superhero story in 2007.

It looks like "The Rock" will finally live out his comic book dream. But fans will just have to wait and see which costume he wears.
