Barclays Premier League: U21 Second Division result

Aston Villa 1-1 Stoke City

Stoke controlled inside four minutes on the clock through a 16-year-old Oliver Shenton before Callum Robinson made it 1-1 draw on 36 minutes after converting a cross from player Michael Drennan. Shenton was the one who beat Villa goalkeeper Craig Hill with a sidetracked strike from outside the box.

In the reverse match of Aston Villa's 1-0 victory at Stoke City on the opening day of the Barclays Premier League campaign, both clubs of Under-21 sides shared the points in a hard-fought and curtain-raiser way for the Barclays Under-21 Premier League season at Bodymoor Heath.

Much of Villa's warning was from an impressive winger Jack Grealish; he twice went close in the early stages and gave troubles to the Potters with his trickery. The 18-year-old player lined up with former England international Joe Cole and Denmark defender Jores Okore.

Bolton Wanderers 3-3 Newcastle United

Andy Hughes attained an own goal in a moment after to drag the Magpies into the lead. Yet Kellett pegged them back once more with a fine 'on his own' run and a strong strike into the bottom left-hand corner. All of the six goals were made before the half-time interval as Lubomir Satka's goal put the hosts in front before Sammy Ameobi's half volley leveled proceedings.

Facundo Ferreyra scored on his debut since blending in the Newcastle United on a season-long loan from Shakhtar Donetsk. The Magpies had 3-3 draw with Bolton Wanderers at Leyland County Ground.

Brighton & Hove Albion 0-2 Blackburn Rovers

Preston welcomed the visitors with a lead - two minutes after half-time. He, then, headed home Dean Rittenberg's cross and Cham secured the three points with 15 minutes left on the clock.

Goals from Jordan Preston and Madou Cham helped Blackburn Rovers to an opening victory against Barclays U21 Premier League newcomers Brighton & Hove Albion in Division 2 at Culver Road.

West Bromwich Albion 2-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Nigeria striker Ideye played 90 minutes and nearly added a third goal for the hosts with a 20-yard strike that flew just over. He played along with fellow new signing player Jason Davidson and first-team defender Gareth McAuley.

Club record signing Brown Ideye lend his hands to West Bromwich Albion in beating the  Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 in a Black Country derby at The Hawthorns.
