iPhone 6 Price As High As $6,000 On eBay; Consumers Want New Apple Smartphone & Phablet Now, Pays Premium For Immediate Ownership

The iPhone 6’s price can be as high as $6,000 on eBay. The USA Today reports that a bold seller, capitalizing on people wanting to get the iPhone 6 ASAP, had a flat asking price of $6,000 for a gold unlocked 64GB iPhone 6. And take note, this is the iPhone 6 for sale and not the iPhone 6 Plus.

The surge in demand for the iPhone 6, which broke sales record on its first days of pre-order, have forced consumers to wait until October to get their hands on Apple’s newest flagship. The waiting time for the iPhone 6 Plus is even longer. According to CNBC, certain orders won't be available for shipping for five or six weeks.

Users wanting the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus now are paying a premium price for immediate ownership. USA Today’s Brad Tuttle describes how crazy the bidding war on eBay has been for the newy unveiled Apple phablet (iPhone 6 Plus):

“With about 30 minutes left in the auction, the price for the phone hit $1,900, which wound up being the winning bid. That’s astronomical compared to what most people think of as the list price for such a unit, $499. But the $499 price tag is a subsidized rate you get in exchange for being locked into a two-year contract with a wireless provider. The true retail price for an unlocked version of this unit is $949, which makes the premium bidders were willing to pay seem slightly more reasonable. Still, $1,900 is double the list price!”

The iPhone 6 Plus eBay users were bidding on was a 128GB Space Gray edition, promised to be available on September 19, Friday, the first day iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be available for purchase.

The new iPhones were unveiled September 9 by Apple CEO Tim Cook and is the most advanced smartphone by Apple. In a press release, Apple announced that pre-orders for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus top four million in 24 hours.
