Updates From The ‘Urobutcher’: ‘Puella Magi Madoka Magica’ And 'Psycho-Pass' Creator Gen Urobuchi Explains Why He ‘Wants To Destroy’ People Of Justice, Will Make An Open World Video Game Next?

When one ventures to watch a magical girl anime there usually isn't an expectation for death and destruction, unless you're watching something written by Gen Urobuchi. Recently the "Urobutcher" sat down with Anime News Network and he's explained (sort of) why he tends to "destroy" characters that seek justice. He also explained the genre he's interested in working in which perhaps we might be seeing a Urobutcher open world video game in the near future.

Affectionately referred to as a "butcher," Gen Urobuchi often writes dark and troubling tales about the struggle between good and evil. Recently he stated to Anime News Network, "Sometimes when I see someone who's a spirit of justice... I feel like I want to destroy them! (laughs) But really, what I'm trying to do is make something compelling. Good and evil need to be on even ground, so that there is the real possibility that either could be the victor."

Fans can easily see this dynamic play out in recent magical girl anime hit, "Puella Magi Madoka Magica," where in the opening sequence we are thrust into a nightmare of Madoka, a teenage girl that will eventually become magical to fight the destruction that once scared her to no end. Madoka's journey is a tough one, but perhaps wouldn't have been as adored by fans if there wasn't that looming threat that she may not win.

While Urobuchi had plenty of other interesting things to say about his other works such as "Fate/Zero" and "Psycho-Pass," he also mentioned some genres that he's interested in working on in the future, including open world video games like Skyrim. Does this mean we can expect an open world of "butcher" style good and evil? The possibilities seem to be endless for the writer since he is not under the pressure to write "Psycho-Pass 2"

Gen Urobuchi has made no official announcements regarding his upcoming projects but one can be sure that his critically acclaimed work will continue to draw the attention of anime and manga fans across the globe.
