According to the official synopsis of "The Rising Road (1933-39)," Episode 5 of Season 1, "As America's 32nd president, FDR introduces the Great Depression initiatives collectively known as the New Deal, which help to alleviate suffering and restore people's self-confidence. Eleanor, meanwhile, serves as her husband's liberal conscience and becomes a political force in her own right. As the decade's end looms, FDR faces two important issues: whether to run for an unprecedented third term; and how to deal with the rise of Adolf Hitler in Germany."

What should we look forward to for tonight's fifth segment of the single season documentary special?

According to USA Today, "Ken Burns's masterful seven-part film, which tells the story of the Roosevelts and, through them, the story of America through much of the 20th Century, switches into its final chapters tonight. Teddy is gone, Franklin is president, and Eleanor is about to become the best-loved (as least among those who don't loathe her) woman in the world. Part of the film follows the rocky path of their marriage; part follows the troubled path of a nation faced with economic collapse at home and growing threats abroad. Some of the challenges mirror our own, but most of them make ours look small in comparison. And the solutions make FDR loom ever larger."

It will certainly be interesting to see this fifth installment of this impressive documentary special play out, as President FDR and First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt face the Great Depression and Hitler.
