Oscar Buzz: Jennifer Lawrence And Bradley Cooper Won’t Get Nominations For ‘Serena’ Due To 2015 Release Date, Rumors Suggest Due To Bad Editing

Although Oscar hope may not be completely over for Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper, it won't be for the film "Serena." Recently, it was announced that the film would not get a stateside theatrical release until early next year.

Bradley Cooper recently commented in an interview with Ask Men on the reason he chose to work on "Serena": "Susanne Bier. I've seen tons of her movies, but ‘After the Wedding' really moved me. And then Jennifer [Lawrence] was interested, and, also, I loved the time period. I didn't know how to ride a horse, so I was glad I got to ride a horse." But that was practically two years ago that the award winning actor was learning to ride a horse for "Serena," a period film that also stars Academy award winning actress, Jennifer Lawrence.

After an overly long period of post-production, the film has finally gotten distribution through Magnolia, and unfortunately, it won't make the December 31st Oscar contention date. According to The Hollywood Reporter, "sources say Magnolia, whose sister company 2929 Productions financed the film, became the default distributor when no other company would take the bait." They go on to explain that in a series of private screenings for the film, viewers were disappointed with the way the film was edited.

Indiewire notes that, "as the movie moved into post-production, Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper became even bigger stars, and it was assumed ‘Serena' would become an Oscar contender." Sources have told The Hollywood Reporter that the film is planned for a quarter one release in 2015 currently, which in general is a quiet period for film. Nevertheless, "Serena" will get its world premiere at the BFI London film festival next month, so at least critics will get a chance to shed some light on the current state of the film.

It's no sweat off of Jennifer Lawrence's shoulder probably, as the actress already has an Oscar and will probably rake in quite a bit of money for the next "Hunger Games" installment. For Bradley Cooper however, it most likely means he'll be a guest rather than potential nominee this year at the Academy Awards.
