Miami Heat Roster: Is Chalmers Still Fit To Run The Offense In South Beach? Is Bledsoe A Better Candidate?

When the Big Three in Boston was formed, it didn't include the point guard, Rajon Rondo. That is also the case when LeBron James and Chris Bosh joined Dwyane Wade to form arguably the best Miami Heat roster in history. They did not include point guard Mario Chalmers.

Chalmers is a sort of a 'decoy' point guard for Miami as he does not bring up the ball a lot like other PGs. Instead, he guards the opposing team's guards in order to disrupt plays, which would lead to turnovers, and then fastbreaks.

Aside from his defensive prowess in the perimeter, Chalmers also excels in shooting the three ball, and with two elite slashers in Wade and James penetrating the defense, shooters like him can knock down the outside shot.

Unfortunately, during the Finals series against the San Antonio Spurs, Chalmers averaged only 4.4 points, more than 3 fouls and 2 turnovers per contest.

No wonder the Spurs steamrolled past the Heat with their perfect offense and stiffling defense.

But now that Chalmers has still been chosen to come aboard this upcoming Heat squad, he surely has tough shoes to fill.

For the first time in the last four years, he may play once more as a true point guard, calling out plays and facilitating the ball.

There are a number of decent options the Heat can also look forward to in the coming months or years. Eric Bledsoe is a promising talent though his injuries are slightly troubling. If he accepts the one-year qualifying contract offered by the Suns, he will become a free agent next off-season.

If Chalmers doesn't want to be robbed of the spotlight in the point guard spot once more, then he better improve from his anemic performance in last year's NBA Finals.
