'How I Met Your Mother' Pineapple Incident Mystery Solved: We Bet You Did Not See That One Coming!

After nine long years, the answer to the "How I met Your Mother" Pineapple Mystery has finally been revealed!

We saw the alternate ending where the Mother (Cristin Milioti) doesn't die and now another deleted scene from the final season had been making its round online, explaining one of "HIMYM"s  biggest mysteries.

Now, we have to backtrack a bit for all of this to make sense, but here goes:

In the first season, Ted (Josh Radnor) and Trudy (Danica McKellar) spent a drunken night together that ended with the famous pineapple on his nightstand. Ted could not remember what happened that evening, and Detective Mosby failed as well. In fact, a scene in the final season of "HIMYM" showed him giving up on the mystery.

So what and how did that pineapple get there you ask?

Apparently, according to the never-before-seen footage, it was actually Ted who put the pineapple on his nightstand!

Okay, what?

Remember in the last season when Ted, Marshall (Jason Segel) and Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) all marched to The Captain's (Kyle MacLachlan) house to get Lily (Alyson Hannigan)? Marshall thought Lily ran away to cheat on him, but it turns out all she wanted to do was take a pregnancy test.

Before Ted left, The Captain said something weird:

"One thing I can forgive. Steal more than one thing, well's that another matter,"

As Ted leaves the house, he notices a pineapple sitting outside the doorway. He then asked The Captain what was the deal behind the front-porch fruit.

"It's an old sea captain's tradition to put a pineapple on your porch as a symbol of hospitality," he explained.

Cue: Ted's flashback to 2005, when he drunkenly stole the pineapple from The Captain's townhouse.

Yikes!

And that kids, is the story behind the pineapple incident.

You can watch the entire video here.

(Seriously though, what's the thing with Ted and stealing stuff? Remember the blue French horn?)

This pineapple incident video is just one of several special features that will appear on the "How I Met Your Mother: The Whole Story DVD", which comes out September 23.
