Joan Rivers Update: 'Fashion Police' Cast Will Continue Show Without Late Comedian Says E! In Statement, Daughter Melissa To Appear On Friday Night Special.

After weeks of speculation and suspense, the E! Network has announced that Fashion Police will continue on without the late Joan Rivers as host. The network says that the show, which has been on indefinite hiatus, will resume in 2015. In a statement, they explained the decision, and noted that daughter Melissa was consulted.

The network says, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Joan Rivers and, for the last two last two weeks, have turned our attention to honoring her memory on all our platforms. We have also thought long and hard about what Joan would have wanted as it pertains to the future of ‘Fashion Police.’” They continue, “We decided, with Melissa Rivers’ blessing, that Joan would have wanted the franchise to continue. ‘Fashion Police’ will return in 2015 commencing with Golden Globes coverage on Monday, January 12. No further details will be announced at this time.”

Fans of the show have been waiting with baited breath for an announcement of this sort since the comedy legend’s tragic death. In a statement released the night of her passing, E! said, “Right now we are mourning our beloved Joan. We will respond at a later date with programming updates.” Of course the junior Rivers, who is the executive producer of the show, was likely in no state to make such a decision decision at the time.

Melissa, meanwhile, made her first TV appearance since her mother’s passing on Fashion Police: Remembering Joan, Friday night. The 90-minute special, which also featured the show’s entire cast, honored the late comedian with a look back at her years on the show. On it, Rivers noted that she received a letter from President Obama offering his condolences. As she explained, “I received a handwritten note saying, ‘Not only did she make us laugh, she made us think.’”
