Sonic Boom Wii U Release Date: ‘Rise Of Lyric’ Arriving A Week Earlier In The US; Launch Moved To Avoid Competition With Huge Titles Like GTA 5 And Far Cry 4?

Sonic Boom Wii U release date has been moved to an earlier date!

According to a report on Gamespot.com, the Wii U game "Sonic Boom: Rise Of Lyric" will hit the shelves ahead of one week. Originally slated for a November 18 release, Sonic Boom for the Wii U will now be available on the 11th.

Developed by Big Red Button, "Sonic Boom: Rise Of Lyric" for the Wii U console will be launched in the market together with Sanzaru Games' "Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal," which is set to be an exclusive game for the Nintendo 3DS.

Sega did not explain the reason for changing the Sonic Boom Wii U release date. However, it is possible that the market launch for Sonic Boom Wii U was moved to avoid competition with some of the biggest upcoming titles. The post on WeGotThisCovered.com reads:

"The most likely reason for the change is the fact that November 18 is already set to contain some of the biggest game releases in months, such as Dragon Age: InquisitionFar Cry 4, and the remastered Grand Theft Auto V. Having such heavy hitters all on the same day could very likely affect the attention gamers give to the Sonic Boom titles, and while there are still some big releases coming out that day, like both new Assassin's Creed games and The Crew, this slightly earlier release may give Sega some extra time to give both titles extra exposure before more AAA releases come out."

WWE 2K15 for PS4 and Xbox One is also set to be released on November 18.

Both the Sonic Boom games, "Rise Of Lyric" and "Shattered Crystals" are spin-off of the popular Sega franchise, the Sonic The Hedgehog. The games also "serve as prequels to the upcoming Sonic Boom animated television series," as described on its Wikipedia page.
