Our weekend box office predictions showed the sci-fi thriller 'Maze Runner,' outrunning other films on its first week with an estimated $33 Million gross, Deadline.Com reported.

'Maze Runner' was followed by another newly released film with Liam Neeson's latest offering, 'A Walk Among the Tombstones, at an estimated $13 Million earnings.

Third on the list is Tina Fey-starring comedy, 'This is Where I Leave You' with $11.7 Million and Idris Elba's 'No Good Deed in No. 4 and completing the top 5 is the family movie, "Dolphins Tale 2.'

'Maze Runner,' is an adaptation of James Dashner novel set on a maze and are running away from monsters, is starring 'Teen Wolf' Dylan O' Brien which is making a good run with the youth audience.

The movie was produced on a $30 million budget, a good first weekend considering how much producers spent to make it.

Movie reviews about this thriller but one thing is common, it exceeded expectations of how it will fare with the audiences, story-wise and earnings.

The top three are new releases this week, replacing previous box office hits 'No Good Deed' and 'Guardians of the Galaxy.'

'No Good Deed' debuted 10-days ago with earnings of over $39 Million, it attracted the female audiences on its first weekend, meanwhile 'Guardians of Galaxy,' with a $309 gross domestically and $500 Million globally continued to prove its might as a superhero film while Dolphin Tale 2 is predicted to make a total of $26 million in America this weekend.

According to BoxOfficeMojo.com, 'Maze Runner" on Friday opened with at least $11.5 million with 'A Walk Among the Tombstones,' in far second with $4.7 Million and closely in third is 'This Is Where I Leave You,' which also have Jane Fonda in its cast.

Another new release this week is 'Tusks' starring Justin Long but reports say its not doing so well with barely $1 million earnings this weekend.
