Billy Idol New Single ‘Can’t Break Me Down' From Upcoming `Kings & Queens of the Underground’ Debuts After Eight Year Silence; Idol To Keynote CBGBs Gathering [VIDEO]

Billy Idol debuted his new single, "Can't Break Me Down," from his upcoming album "Kings and Queens of the Underground" this weekend and it sounds like vintage Billy Idol. The former lead singer of the punk pop band Gen X will release his first new album in almost a decade on Oct. 21. Idol will release the new album on his own BFI Records via Kobalt Label Services.

"Can't Break Me Down" is available for pre-order on iTunes and Amazon. Fans who pre-order the song from iTunes will also get "Hollywood Promises," a bonus track that will not be available anywhere else.

Most of the new Billy Idol album was produced by Trevor Horn, who sat behind the mixing board for the prog-rock band Yes. Greg Kurstin produced two tracks on the new album, including "Can't Break Me Down." Trevor Horn, produced the Yes's only number one hit "Owner of a Lonely Heart." Greg Kurstin worked with Kelly Clarkson and Pink.

"Kings & Queens of the Underground" features the punk guitar of Steve Stevens guitar.

In a behind-the-scenes promotional clip, Billy Idol said "Making millions of records is fantastic but you want to make the right record," explained Idol in a behind-the-scenes clip. "So we really waited quite a long time for this sensual feeling, this cinematic, theatrical, 1080 pixels, high def wide screen cinema-scope version of this music, which that's the way it feels to me. It feels like a sound track."

"The majority of the songs on the album were written by Steve Stevens, Billy Morrison and myself," Idol added. "The music usually dictates when you put out an album, you feel you've got something worth while or you've got something that makes sense to you or something that seems fresh or progressing, moving your music along. That's what we look for."

Idol's last album was 2005's Christmas album.

Billy Idol will also deliver the keynote address at the upcoming 3rd Annual CBGB Music & Film Festival in New York, which will be presented by VVN Music on October 9 at the CBGB Festival Headquarters.

Idol will also releases his autobiography, "Dancing With Myself," on October 7.
