Upcoming Android Phones 2014: Meet What Could Be The First Smartphone To Run On Snapdragon 810, May Be Launched In December Or January 2015

Chinese manufacturer Vivo has accomplished the impossible almost a year ago - launch a device with a Quad HD or 2K (2560 x 1440) display. One of its upcoming Android phones for 2014 is the Xplay 3s, which was announced earlier this year.

It seems the company wants to bank on its previous success by releasing another first in the mobile industry.

According to a report by GSM Arena, the device will be named Vivo Xplay 5 and will pack the world's first ever Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset.

That's according to Chinese tech analyst Pan Jiutang when he mentioned the possible devices which would get the chipmaker's latest creation.

Two other models mentioned include the Oppo Find 9 (Oppo launches its flagships by odd numbers e.g. Find 5, 7) and the Xiaomi Mi5. However, as far as launch schedules are concerned, Vivo definitely has the advantage as it launched its Xplay 3s in January as the first QHD smartphone.

In March, Oppo finally debuted the second QHD phone with the Find 7, while LG G3 was the third and was announced in late May. A couple of months after that, the QHD industry has boomed, and by September there are already a number of them in some markets.

The same is expected of Snapdragon 810. Snapdragon 805 has just been released in the Galaxy Note 4, though we don't know which phones would get in the future. If Vivo could launch a Snapdragon 810-powered smartphone by the end of December to January, then most phone manufacturers who develop high-end phones would surely love to get this chip running in their upcoming handsets.

In the report, the Snapdragon 810 is said to run on 8 cores, four Cortex-A57 and four Cortex-A53. It also supports 64-bit applications and compatibility.
