Andray Blatche Contract: 6'11" Forward Gets Snubbed By NBA: Joins China Instead; Chinese Basketball League Also Acquires Jordan Crawford

Despite Andray Blatche's excellent performance at the recently concluded 2014 FIBA tournament, NBA teams passed on the center.

Before joining Gilas Pilipinas for the tournament in Spain, Blatche was supposed to have a contract with the New Jersey Nets for the 2014-2015 NBA season, which would pay him over $1.4 million. The 6'11" forward, however, went with his player option and turned down the deal to try the free agent market. However, meetings with the Miami Heat and Toronto Raptors did not result to any Andray Blatche contract offer.

In a report by Yahoo! Sports, China was particularly interested in Blatche after he averaged 21.2 points and 13.8 rebounds at the FIBA World Cup, helping the Philippines get its first win in the competition in a span of four decades. With the Nets, he 11.2 points and 5.3 rebounds while playing over 20 minutes a game. The Xinjiang Guanghui Flying Tigers offered an Andray Blatche contract worth $2.5 million to play for one year in the Chinese Basketball League. The Chinese team also acquired Jordan Crawford to hopefully win its first championship.

Bleacher Report wrote that Billy King, general manager of the New Jersey Nets, said several times at the start of the free agency that they were going towards a different direction. He shared that the team had their reasons for having to move on. It was apparent that there were issues between Blatche and the team officials, as evidence by his reduced playing time in the playoffs.

Overall, Blatche is a great offensive weapon, although he needs to put more effort in his defense. The Flying Tigers are expected to benefit much by acquiring two former NBA players, particularly offering the Andray Blatche contract. In the past season, the Flying Tigers finished second in the CBA, so adding more firepower in the frontcourt will generally be beneficial in their team play.
