This Weekend At The Box Office: Will Denzel Washington In ‘The Equalizer’ Be Able To Knock Off ‘Teen Wolf’ Star Dylan O’Brien In ‘The Maze Runner’?

Although there's still one more week left before the last quarter of the box office begins, this weekend looks to be a competition of ages, but not in the sense of "The Hunger Games." Denzel Washington's latest action film "The Equalizer" is poised to hit theaters this Friday but while it's expected to have a solid debut, will it be enough to beat the successful start from "Teen Wolf's" Dylan O'Brien in "The Maze Runner?"

"Oh boy! Legend ... Doesn't that mean it's over when they start called you a legend?" said Denzel Washington in response to a question posed by The Source that asserted he was indeed an acting legend.

It would seem that Washington is the only one who still questions his legendary status as his "Training Day" director Antoine Fuqua had nothing but praise for the actor while on the set of "The Equalizer." The film, which is the first time the pair has worked together since "Training Day," had it's New York premiere last night, and so far no one can say anything bad about the actor's performance.

But is Washington's performance good enough to hold off the already successful start to "The Maze Runner" franchise? Last weekend "Teen Wolf" star Dylan O'Brien carried the film into a number one debut with a $32.5 Million gross over the weekend. The YA novel adaptation also opened ahead of "Divergent" in the international box office, which demonstrates O'Brien's universal appeal.

The two films will face off this weekend, and so far Screen Rant predicts that the weekend will belong to Denzel Washington and "The Equalizer." In some ways the competition really will be mainly be between the two actors because of the current reviews circulating, no critics have anything bad to say about either performance among some negative reviews of the overall films.

Dylan O'Brien may have fangirls screaming, but Denzel Washington has a fanbase and an Academy Award. When compared that way, it seems like an obvious choice to see "The Equalizer" over "The Maze Runner." One can't be sure until the box office gross numbers come in this weekend. "The Equalizer" will get its U.S. theatrical release this Friday on September 26th.
