Upcoming Sony Phones 2014: Water And Dust-Resistant Midranger Hitting Canada Soon, Off-Contract Price May Range Between $250 And $300

Announced in August, one of the upcoming Sony phones for 2014 is bound to hit the Canadian market soon.

According to a report by Phone Arena, the device will hit a small carrier named in Videotron on October 2. In the report, the device will be free with a 2-year contract, while it could be priced between $250 and $300 without a contract.

If you have missed the device's announcement in August, the Sony Xperia M2 Aqua features similar specs to the Xperia M2, with the only major difference being the water and dust resistance of the former.

As for the specs, the M2 Aqua is strictly a midrange with its 4.8-inch IPS display with qHD (960 x 540) resolution, 1GB of RAM, quad-core CPU running at 1.2GHz, and 8GB of built-in storage.

Other specs include an 8MP primary camera at the back and a 1.1MP front shooter. The device also supports the basic connectivity options which include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, NFC and even LTE connectivity.

Lastly, the Xperia M2 Aqua runs on a 2,300mAh battery and Android 4.4 Kit Kat out of the box.

Unfortunately, there are still no further details whether this affordable lower midrange handset will make its way to the US as well.

This year, the Japanese-based manufacturer has officially expanded its market from only the UK, Europe and Japan, up to the US. Unlike the Xperia Z2 which is not available from any local carrier, the Xperia Z3 should be available on all major carriers before the year ends.

This could also be Sony's strategy to take on the competition with other Android manufacturers like LG and Samsung, and even eat a piece of Apple's market share.
