Upcoming Windows Phones 2014: New Mobile OS Will Be Named Windows 10? Aims To Unite Mobile And PC Platforms?

In spite the new Windows Phone 8.1 update which made waves during the Microsoft BUILD Conference earlier this year, WP sales is still struggling and nowhere near Android and iOS.

While the new additions to the software are notable wich include the Action Center notification area, a faster way to swipe-typing, more customization options, and the Cortana virtual assistant, a huge chunk of the market may no be looking forward to upcoming Windows phones for 2014.

However, that may not be the case next year as Microsoft will open a new chapter in the life of Windows Phone.

According to a report by Phone Arena, Microsoft has already confirmed that its newest and upcoming Windows 10 platform for the PC will be able to run not only on multiple devices, but ALL devices. That should include the mobile division.

A few months ago, there have been reports that Microsoft will lay-off 18,000 employees, most of which work on the mobile department of Finnish manufacturer Nokia. This could be the answer why - Microsoft will unite all of its Windows platforms into one  - Windows 10.

Have you ever imagined yourself running a Windows desktop UI in your Lumia smartphone?

However, in the report it has been stressed that the project is still in its early stages. That means we could still be a long way to finally having a Windows 10-running smartphone.

Still, the fact that the Redmond giant is working on it provides hope that it will take place in the near future.
