Zombieland 2 Back In Development As New Writer Dave Callaham Attached To The Sequel!

Since zombie comedy Zombieland hit theaters in 2009, zombies have not gone out of style. With record breaking ratings, AMC's The Walking Dead will be joined by a companion series with a zombie-infested series already on Syfy - Z Nation, a post-apocalyptic horror drama TV series for competition. World War Z, disaster zombie film directed by Marc Forster was fortunate enough to earn a sequel whereas Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, horror comedy romance film directed by Burr Steers is no longer in development hell.

Though Amazon produced a pilot episode of Zombieland, the series had to be discontinued as the initial episode failed to generate the kind of response, eagerness and appreciation that the makers were expecting from the fans. As a follow-up to Zombieland, its sequel was most anticipated and therefore we are excited to announce (via Deadline) that Sony Pictures is restoring Zombieland 2, written by Dave Callaham who wrote The Expendables for Warner Bros.

Russ Fleischer, original film's director will be returning to the show and will serve as script supervisor as well.

Though David Callaham has written The Expendables and submitted the first draft for Legendary Pictures' Godzilla reboot, none of these films confirms he has what it takes to work on an off-the-wall project like Zombieland 2. Fleischer's involvement is therefore extremely important as his return will ensure that there are at least some ties back to the original movie.

Probably it was Fleischer and not Zombieland's writers, Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, who was responsible for turning Zombieland movie into such a hit. Both the writers, Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese were involved in the Amazon pilot which failed. As far as the fact that the pilot as a whole was not well-received, Rhett Reese blames fans' dislike of new actors in the roles originally played by Abigail Breslin, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Woodey Harrelson.

What do you think about and expect from the Zombieland sequel? Would you prefer it pick up from where the first movie left off or rather would like to see a whole new story and characters?
