Rush Hour TV Series In The Works As Bill Lawrence Works On The Script For The Pilot Episode With Blake McCormick!

Popular films heading to the small screen seems to becoming a weekly tradition around here. Rush Hour, Hong Kong-American martial arts/action-comedy film series starring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, is up on the revival chopping block this week.

The series revolves around two police detectives, an American LAPD detective played by Chris Tucker and a Hong Kong Police Force inspector, portrayed by Jackie Chan. The first film was released in 1998 to good reviews in and was a huge success at the box office making nearly $250 million world wife on a budget of just $33 million. The success it achieved led to a series of sequels which earned around $100 million more than the original. Filming for Rush Hour 3 began on July 4, 2006 after it was officially announced on May 7, 2006 and this time the law of diminishing returns caught up with the series.

After a good first week, box office totals dropped off fast. Even critics ravaged the threequel. Talks of Rush Hour 4 has come and gone since then. Apparently Lee and Carter's next stop is your living room.

Brett Ratner, director of the Rush Hour film series is guiding the TV adaptation of the franchise and is also serving as an executive producer. The fact that Brett Ratner is involved with a project might turn off many potential viewers, especially those who have not forgiven him for what he did to the original X-men movie franchise. However, since Ratner will not be handling the day-today creative direction of the series, those folks may want to reconsider writing the show off.

Bill Lawrence, Scrubs and Cougar Town creator is signed on as show runner for the Rush Hour television series and along with longtime collaborator Blake McCormick, he will also co-script the pilot episode. The actual plot of the series centers on a Hong Kong cop who works strictly according to the rules. He gets called into action in L.A. and is hesitantly teamed up with a cocky LAPD officer and anyone who has seen the movie knows they turn out to be a very effective team.
