Fashion Brands Planning To Release Clothes With Larger Pockets For iPhone 6; Will ‘Phablets’ Pave Way For New Clothing Trend?

With the recent iPhone 6 Plus release, several clothing brands are now considering to enlarge the pockets of their items. The Independent reports that several fashion brands are trying to cope up with the consumers' growing sizes of phones which are aptly called "phablets."

Gizmag describes a "phablet" as a portmanteau for a phone "that's big enough to replace a small tablet." It can be any phone model whose screen is 5.5 inches or bigger.

"We are having conversations currently with the product development team regarding technology overall, and how our clothes can provide compatibility from a user perspective," claims a representative from Japanese label Uniqlo to Quartz.

Levi's, on the other hand, claims that they base the design of their products not primarily on iPhone 6. The renowned jeans company claims that the convenience of customers will remain their priority.

"It's something that we are always considering, in terms of the functionality of our garments. Of course, we're always going to make sure that we're going for something that's flattering for the consumer," said designer Whitney Neary.

Designer Tom Mora of J. Crew also confirms that the company's design process can adapt to the consumers' ever-changing preferences: "Throughout the design process, we try to consider every aspect of the way our customers live their lives, and changing mobile technology is no exception,"

While some fashion brands are still in the early stages of planning, some have already released garments with enlarged pockets such as American Eagle and L.L. Bean. iPhone and Samsung "phablets" are reportedly used in determining the pockets' sizes.
