Any fans who were still hoping that Agent Prentiss (played Paget Brewster) would be returning for the "Criminal Minds" season 10 premiere may have had those hopes crushed in last night but were offered instead a return to television for "Ghost Whisperer" star Jennifer Love Hewitt. While some fans definitely prefer and miss their beloved Agent Prentiss, the episode premiered with solid ratings, proving that "Criminal Minds" will continue to dominate television even with a change in the acting lineup.

Jennifer Love Hewitt recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about taking on the new role of SSA Kate Callahan on "Criminal Minds."

"They were looking to add a new cast member and obviously I spent some time at CBS before, doing ‘Ghost Whisperer.' Honestly, I had always wondered and been waiting to find the perfect way to get back," she said.

Jennifer Love Hewitt went on to explain that after a couple of meetings, (including a reunion with friend and "Criminal Minds" show runner Erica Messer), everything seemed to align perfectly.

Based on the ratings for the tenth season opener, the casting choice seems to be an overall good one. According to Deadline, "Criminal Minds" opened its 10th season with a 2.7 in 18-49 and 11.5 million viewers, which is on par with last year's season opener and last season's finale.

Fans mostly had positive reactions to the addition of the "Ghost Whisperer" actress to the main cast. Yahoo! TV has compiled some tweets that popped up when Jennifer Love Hewitt began trending during the premiere last night, including one fan that tweeted, "@TheReal_Jlh I loved you in GW and Client list I wish you nothing but the best for @CrimMinds_CBS! You will do a wonderful job!!"

Other fans however preferred Paget Brewster and only had negative things to say, including one fan who wanted all the writers to be fired for the casting choice (clearly someone who doesn't understand how these choices are made).

Given that the "Criminal Minds" season 10 premiere had such high ratings, it's unlikely that Jennifer Love Hewitt is going anywhere. For fans who missed the episode last night, it's currently available to watch on cbs.com
