Jennifer Love Hewitt Solves Cases for Criminal Minds, But Thought Casting Was a Practical Joke

Jennifer Love Hewitt is done whispering to ghosts and is now solving crimes on "Criminal Minds." Jennifer Love Hewitt is officially a member of the BAU.  "Criminal Minds" premiered its new season with Jennifer Love Hewitt amidst a social media explosion.

Jennifer Love Hewitt said she was "sweaty" and "clammy" when she got the casting call and thought she was being punk'd when she the call to appear on Criminal Minds. She told E! "When I got the call, I was in my sweatpants, with no makeup, making stuffed bell peppers in my kitchen, where I've been for a while post-baby."

The former Client List star debuted as veteran FBI Agent Kate Callahan on CBS's Criminal Minds on Wednesday night. Callahan starts as an interviewee and is immediately welcomed as a member of the  BAU team.

Criminal Minds' executive producer Erica Messer told Mashable magazine"She's got a lot of Jennifer to her, and she's a great asset to the team. And she has undercover experience that our team hasn't had; it's a skill set that's specific and different."

Kate Callahan had been working as a sexual crimes agent. Hewitt's character lures a pedophile into a trap of FBI agents with charm.

Hewitt said she was "not prepared" to return to work so soon after becoming mother to 10-month-old daughter, Autumn James Hallisay. "I'm definitely sort of flying by the seat of my pants," she told E! "You know, you're a mom and everything form the moment they're in your arms is flying by the seat of your pants. So you get very good at it very quickly..[Autumn] is being really brave and I'm being brave and we're just sort of figuring it out."
