Maze Runner 2 In The Works As 'Breaking Bad' Star Giancarlo Esposito To Play Jorge In The Sequel Confirmed!

With the success of The Hunger Games, then Divergent, the YA blockbuster franchises set the trend for fast track sequels. Maze Runner is the latest to join this bandwagon. The sequel titled The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials Stars Dylan O'Brien, Kaya Scodelario, and Thomas Brodie-Sangster  as well as the other cast members who were alive at the end of the first movie.

Moreover, Scorch Trails has already cast actor Aiden Gillen (Game of Thrones) to play Jansen/Rat Man and is working on filling out the rest of its new cast. Three new cast members were added to Scorch Trials this week.

As per a report by THR, Giancarlo Esposito who plays Gustavo "Gus" Fring on the AMC series Breaking Bad will play the role of Jorge, the leader of a group of survivors called Cranks. It was reported earlier this week that Mexican actress and screenwriter Rosa Salazar (American Horror Story) will play the role of Brenda who is a member of Jorge's ground. Jacob Lofland who played Neckbone in the film Mud, will join the cast as Aris, a cast who worked with WCKD prior to the events of The Maze Runner.

The story progresses in Scorch Trials with the three new characters along with Gillen's Rat Man facing the surviving Gladers including Thomas (O'Brien), Teresa (Scodelario) and Newt (Brodie-Sangster). The sequel will be directed by Wes Ball (The Maze Runner) and T.S. Nowlin (who wrote the screenplay for The Maze Runner), will write the script.

Giancarlo Esposito's addition to the cast might be appealing for those who admired his work in Breaking Bad or many other projects. Espito adds a bit of dramatic influence that might work well along with Gillen's performance. However, there is a possibility that Scorch Trials might pay particular attention to the teenaged stars rather than the adults as was the case with The Maze Runner. Plus, Esposito's role will be on the smaller side and if that's the case, more importance will be given to roles of Salazar and Lofland despite of them being newcomers. It is yet to be seen if they will be able to hold their own with the returning and/or more experienced stars. It is noticeable that most of the exceptionally good performances in The Maze Runner came from the supporting actors.

Considering Scorch Trials' tight schedule and fast track of casting, we can soon expect to know more about new cast and how the characters fit into the sequel.

The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials will premiere on September 18, 2014.
