Dallas Gets Cancelled; Reboot Of The 80s Soap Opera Canned After Third Season

"Dallas" has been canceled by TNT after three seasons.

The network confirmed the news that the reboot of the 1980 series "Dallas" got canned only a week after its third season's finale.

"We are extremely proud of the series, which defied expectations by standing as a worthy continuation of the Erwing saga," said a TNT spokesperson. "We want to thank everyone involved with the show, from the extraordinary cast to the impeccable production team, led by the show's creative forces, Cynthia Cidre and Mike Robin. We especially want to thank the people of Dallas for their warm and generous hospitality during the production of the series."

The reboot of the 1980s CBS's primetime soap of the same name was produced as a sequel of the original, with its story focusing on the next generation of the Erwing clan. Some of the original cast members of the first version of the series, Larry Hagman as J.R. and Patrick Duffy as Bobby, reprised their roles in the remake. In addition to the show, Jesse Metcalfe was cast as Bobby's son Christopher and Josh Henderson played J.R.'s son John Ross.

While some of the cast members have not issued official statements about the show's end, Henderson took to his Twitter and Instagram accounts to air a rather cryptic post, saying: "When it rains it pours. But GOD is good. I have a message coming to you all very soon. But for now I'm getting my mind off my recent loss and at the #Dodger game. Love you all. I really do. Thank you all for your amazing love and support. #youguysaremyrock #loveyal #letsgoblue."

The show's executive producer Cynthia Cidre told TVLine in an interview in late September that she had already written storylines for the show's fourth run. She shared quite a few details and hinted at possible plot resolutions in the new season.

"You know, we just always want to keep moving, like a shark. It's like Woody Allen says in 'Annie Hall.' We've established ourselves as a show that spins your head on your shoulders at the end of the season," she explained.

"Dallas" got cancelled due to dwindling ratings. Itopened with nearly 7 million viewers in June 2012, it failed to gain consistent viewership.
