‘Resident Evil Revelations 2’ Release Date Set For 2015 While Game Critics Commend Capcom For Complex Female Character Leads And More Co-op Details Released

Say what you will about the direction of the survival horror turned action franchise "Resident Evil," Capcom has no plans of slowing down the series anytime soon. Recently at the 2014 Tokyo Game Show, Capcom confirmed "Resident Evil Revelations 2" for a release in early 2015. So far game critics are happiest with the game's heroines Claire Redfield and Moira's strong performances. Additionally, some new details about co-op play should quell some of the disappointment in the episodic release format.

IGN recently spoke to "Resident Evil Revelations 2" Producer Michiteru Okabe about the characterization of Moira and Claire Redfield.

"Really, only after did we look back and say, ‘Oh, I guess they are both girls," Okabe explained. "Which is good, because it means we're treating them as whole characters and not just as their gender. Which points to progress in the industry."

After all of the recent issues regarding gender in the gaming industry (i.e. Anita Sarkeesian), it would appear that some game developers are succeeding in providing complex female characters that don't fulfill the damsel in distress stereotype.

In fact, IGN was quite impressed with the return of strong and calculatingly brutal Claire Redfield as well as the teenage supporting character Moira Burton. They commend the developers for making Moira capable but not as capable of killing as Claire. This makes her a truly a teenager experiencing terror that is forced to grow up or die.

The interesting combination of Claire and Moira is particularly highlighted by the co-op play being offered in "Resident Evil Revelations 2." According to Game N Guide "Co-op play in the game is entirely local. It has two players take on the role of the two leading ladies: franchise veteran Claire Redfield and Moira Burton, daughter of series standby Barry Burton. As Moira, players can blind enemies with a flashlight while Claire focuses on taking them out. Players playing by themselves will be paired with an AI ally and will be able to switch between the two characters to make their way through the levels of the survival horror title."

Capcom has yet to confirm an official release date, but "Resident Evil Revelations 2" is expected to be available in episodes that lead to it's full game in early 2015. It will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
