'The Purge 3' Movie Is Officially In The Works; Universal Pictures Puts Cities on Lockdown As The Purge Sequel Threatens To Break Annually

The Purge 3 is on the way. The third movie in The Purge franchise is beginning pre-production. Universal Pictures says they have given a greenlight to The Purge 3.

The studio announced the return of James DeMonaco, who wrote and directed The Purge and The Purge: Anarchy. DeMonaco will write screenplay may direct the next installment.

In an interview with Deadline, DeMonaco said "I never imagined that The Purge would become the phenomenon it has become, and I am thrilled to continue my collaboration with Blumhouse, Sebastien Lemercier, Platinum Dunes and the great team at Universal in building The Purge into a worldwide franchise."

There is no official release for the film.

The ad campaign says the Purge will be "an annual tradition." Could this mean the franchise is set to release a film a year?.

In an interview with wegotthiscovered.com, Michael K. Williams said "Hopefully, that's been the rumor mill, that there's going to be a 3 and that Carmello is going to be at the helm. I think that's a possibility, we'll just have to wait and see."

The Purge 3 will take place in the same world as the first two Purge movies. Where people can kill each other for one night without legal recourse. In The Purge: Anarchy the murder spree became a big city riot.

The Purge 3  will be produced by Universal, Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes Studios.  and the team that shuttered us in our home the first time: Sebastian Lemercier, Jason Blum, Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form.

The first two Purge films were made for $12 million collectively. Between them, the made $200 million worldwide.

The Purge starred Ethan Hawke in May 2013.
