The next X-Men movie, "X-Men: Apocalypse" will benefit from the new timeline that "Days of Future Past" has established. They have more creative control and they can now start again. That also includes the cast.

The recasting seems inevitable as main writer Simon Kinberg confirms. From an interview with Yahoo(transcribed by io9): "We included some of the original X-Men like Storm and Jean and Scott and other in Apocalypse, yeah we'd have to recast them, as Apocalypse takes place a good twenty years before [the first] X-Men, which was now, insanely, a good ten to fifteen years ago.

It would be really hard to do. Halle (Berry) and Famke (Janssen) and Jimmy (Marsden) and others have done such wonderful jobs of bringing those parts to life, and are so identified with those parts now. So it would be a tall task. But I also would have said before First Class that there would be no actors who can stand alongside Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart."

That's a reality that even James Marsden, the original Scott Summers aka Cyclops has accepted. He has even endorsed a replacement. Marsden is currently busy with other projects. One of them is a Nicholas Sparks adaptation (quite a stretch from the X-Men) entitled "The Best of Me" and one of his co-stars is Luke Bracey who also plays the younger version of Marsden in their movie.

Also from Yahoo: "Yeah, that'd be great [if Luke Bracey took over as Cyclops]. Then he could just eventually take over being me. Then I would never get another role as long as I live!"

"Who knows what's happening [with 'X-Men']? It's all just speculation at this point. If [recasting] does happen, it was because of a timeline issue. I know so little about that whole world."

Bracey will also play the lead in the "Point Break" remake, originally played by Keanu Reeves.

Meanwhile, other fan suggestions for Cyclops, which would probably play a more significant role (fans were angry at his demise) in the new X-Men Universe include Ryan Gosling, Zane Holtz of TV's "From Dusk Till Dawn" and even Liam Hemsworth.
