Amazon Fire Phone update: The Android-based device by Amazon, the Amazon Fire Phone, is offficially being called a bust, but the world’s largest internet retailer may not be giving up anytime soon.

Analyst note that it is very possible they’ll be moving forward with a second generation of the device.

According to Charles Arthur of The Guadrian, citing comScore and Chitika as sources, the company may have sold no more than 35,000 Fire Phones. Amazon does not give sales figures.

“The odds of Amazon succeeding were always very small,” says Mark Mahaney, Managing Director and analyst for RBC Capital Markets, speaking with Fortune. “My guess is it’s too late.”

The company seemingly showing hints of disappointment on the lack of traction of the Amazon Fire Phone has slashed the price of the handset from $99 to 99 cents with a two-year service agreement. The company is offering the handset’s 32GB version for practically zilch.

Fortune notes that to succeed in a crowded space dominated by aggressive competitors like Apple and Samsung, a smartphone like Amazon Fire, which arrived seven years late, has to stand out.

Amazon Fire was launched June 18, 2014 and is an Android-based device with a 4.7-inch 720P display. It runs on a 2.2 GHz quad-core processor and has 2GB RAM and up to 64GB storage. The unit also has a 13-megapixel camera and is packed with services like Mayday and Firefly. The latter is a phone feature that allows you to identify and purchase things that you see in the real world.

Mayday is Amazon’s award-winning customer service where you get free, live, on-device tech support where an Amazon customer service representative will appear to help via live video. The tech support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The handset’s 32GB version is currently priced at $0.99 with a service contract on AT&T and $449 without a service plan. Purchasing a handset includes a full year of Amazon Prime.
