Marvel 'Doctor Strange' Movie Actively Moving Forward Despite Joaquin Phoenix Dropping Out Of The Film? Director Scott Derrickson Hints Disney Work

Marvel "Doctor Strange" movie is moving forward despite rumored cast Joaquin Phoenix reportedly dropping out of negotiations to play the titular role according to Movie Pilot.

Possible actors to play the coveted Sorcerer Supreme role could be Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hardy, Jared Leto and Ethan Hawke as suggested by the entertainment publication.

While, there is no formal announcement about the Marvel film, director Scott Derrickson posted a rather interesting Tweet, hinting that he's already working with the project.

"I now work on the Disney lot," he shared with a photo of an old spooky Mickey Mouse in it.

Derrickson previously revealed that Disney has tapped a writer to pen the script saying,

"Obviously it's been announced there's a writer on Doctor Strange but in that situation it's maybe my favorite screenwriter in town. I'd read four of his scripts before ever meeting him. I think that the opportunity to work with great talent and people who can supersede my abilities in various areas is extremely exciting to me. Like, Jon Spaihts is a genius," confirmed by director Scott Derrickson

Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feige, claims that the bringing Stephen Strange on the big screen will bring interesting changes to Marvel Cinematic Universe, according to an article by Digital Spy.

"I believe it's very, very important for us to explore every nook and cranny of the comic-book universe," Total Film reported during CineEurope event.

"We've done the street-level heroes, and we've done the billionaire superheroes. We've now done the cosmic side with Thor and Avengers and most obviously with [Guardians of the Galaxy}, but there's a whole other side of the Marvel comics, which is that supernatural side - the interdimensional side of the Marvel universe.

"Doctor Strange is, I believe, our entry point into that other realm, which has dozens of characters and storylines all of its own."

Feige continued saying that the Sorcerer Supreme's film is "very, very important" to Marvel's future.

"[This is] a journey of a man who's gone from this very arrogant surgeon to somebody who is quite zen and literally keeps all of reality together on a daily basis, but it also is going to open up a whole other side of storytelling for our movies," he expounded.

More importantly Marvel's big man suggests that the casting for the movie will start "in the next month or two."

In the wake of the recent development of the planned Marvel Doctor Strange project, Deadline.com reports that fan favorites "Hobbit: Battle Of Five Armies" smaug Benedict Cumberbatch and "The Dark Knight Rises" star Tom Hardy are both being eyed to play the titular role.

It is safe to assume that it will not take any longer for Marvel to officially announce who would take on the sought after role.
