‘American Horror Story’ Spin Off Series ‘American Crime Story’ Ordered At FX, First Season To Explore O.J. Simpson Trial Controversies

After the wild success of horror anthology series "American Horror Story," FX continues to show their faith in creator Ryan Murphy by confirming an order for his similar structured series, "American Crime Story." The series structure will focus each season on different real-life crime stories, the first season set to feature the O.J. Simpson murder trial.

"I think I have a pattern of nice and lovely and then dark and twisted. But I'm attracted to that," said "Glee" and "American Horror Story" creator Ryan Murphy to Julia Roberts in an interview for an issue of Interview Magazine.

It would seem that pattern will somewhat end as his latest series to come about will more than likely be more dark than light. One day prior to the season premiere of "American Horror Story: Freak Show" it was announced that producer Ryan Murphy would be getting another show for FX entitled "American Crime Story."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Like AHS, 'American Crime' will be produced as an anthology series focused each season on a different real-life crime story that made headlines and captivated the public's imagination. The first 10-episode installment is entitled The People v. O.J. Simpson, based on Jeffrey Toobin's best-selling book 'The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson'."

They went on to explain that the project will focus on the perspective of the lawyers and the behind-the-scenes dealings of the court leading up to the trial. It will also explore the long complicated relationship that the L.A.P.D. has had with the city's Black community. In the wake of both the Trayvon Martin and Ferguson protests over the shooting of Michael Brown, police brutality is sure to come into play.

No announcement was made as to when the series will premiere, but it will perhaps give Ryan Murphy fans something to be entertained by while waiting for the next season of "American Horror Story."
