Upcoming HTC Phones 2014: The Desire Eye Will Be King Of Selfie Game, Boasts 13MP Front Shooter With Dual-LED Flash, Packs The Same Resolution For Back Camera

For the past couple of weeks, we have been checking out one of the upcoming HTC phones for 2014, and one that would reportedly rule the selfie world.

During the Taiwanese manufacturer's Double Exposure event earlier today, that was certainly apparent.

According to a report by Phone Arena, the phone maker has introduced another high-end device, the HTC Desire Eye.

So what's so special about this smartphone? It boasts a 13MP camera on both sides, the rear and front. Both sensors are also paired with their own dual-LED flash.

With this announcement, HTC aims directly at the selfie-oriented competition which includes the Sony Xperia C3, the Nokia Lumia 730, and even some Android smartphones from Huawei and Xiaomi which boast 8 megapixels of front shooter.

However, the Desire Eye is not just a selfie device. Its specs are also pretty high-end for a Desire handset, and includes a 5.2-inch IPS display with Full hD (1920 x 1080) resolution, 2GB of RAM, a Snapdragon 801 chipset from Qualcomm and a 16GB built-in memory of which 8GB is user accessible.

Other specs of the device include a 2,400mAh battery, LTE connectivity, and Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat out of the box.

In spite the Desire branding, the Desire Eye is not a midrange device when we take a look at its specs. Given this confusion, the device may get pricing issues, which will not be good for its initial impact in markets where it will be announced.

We'll see if the selfie camera of this device lives up to the hype when we take it to a camera test.
