Mitch Pileggi, who plays the head of the FBI, Agent Walter Skinner in "The X-Files" has just confirmed that he will be reprising his role in the show's reboot. The show is set to return on Fox for a limited run.

It was "X-Files" star David Duchovny who first said that Mitch Pileggi and William B. Davis will be back as Agent Skinner and The Cigarette Smoking Man respectively, during a guest appearance in "The Late Show With David Letterman." The statement remained unconfirmed until Pileggi himself made the announcement.

In his Twitter account, Pileggi confirmed that he was reprising his role. "Very happy to announce that Walter Skinner will once again be getting all grumpy and bitchy with his two wayward kids," the actor tweeted. "Very happy."

The two main stars of Fox' hit show, David Duchovny, who plays Agent Fox Mulder, and Gillain Anderson, who plays Agent Dana Scully are also confirmed for "The X-Files" reboot. 

In an interview with The New York Times, Duchovny shared that he and "X-Files" creator had always planned to do a continuation of the series. "We're still trying to do the same show," Duchovny said. "It's not like were trying to make it 2.0, or whatever the .0 is now. 3.0. "

"We're gonna make the same show," he continued. "But it'll be interesting because Gillian and I are older. I don't want to act like it's 20 years ago."

Duchovny also shared that he thinks shooting the "X-Files" again will feel very strange.

"I think I'll be nervous on the day," the actor shared. "When I'm in a scene with Gillian, I think we'll both be like, this is so weird."

"It'll be interesting to see how we keep the characters the same but also the actors are better," Duchovny concluded.
