'The Equalizer 2' Confirmed; Denzel Washington Back As Vigilante Robert McCall As Insider Details Revealed!

Sony Pictures has confirmed that the Denzel Washington film, "The Equalizer" is getting a sequel.

The film did not immediately become a big box office hit when it first opened but has since proved a crowd-drawer, earning $ 34.1 million when it opened in cinemas. "The Equalizer" is Washington's best performing movie since his 2012 movie, "Safe House."

Before the movie performed well in theaters, there was already news that a sequel was in the works and after watching the first film, fans said that it looked like a movie that was being set up to be a franchise film. CinemaBlend interviewed director Antoine Fuqua who confirmed that he would be willing to come back for "The Equalizer" sequel.

"We have talked about it a lot," the director shared.  "Myself, the studio and Denzel. Everybody wants to."

"If all goes well, I'll definitely be back," Fuqua continued. "I think there is a lot of room, and a lot of story left to tell in the life of Robert McCall."

With the movie performing excellently at the box office, with more than $101 million in domestic receipts, and an additional $90 million internationally, the sequel has been confirmed.

Variety reported that Sony has given the greenlight for the sequel, with star Denzel Washington "expected to reprise his role as vigilante Robert McCall."

Antoine Fuqua has not yet been confirmed as the director for "Equalizer 2," and there has been no word yet whether co-star Chloe Grace Moretz will be back.

"The Equalizer" is based on the TV series that aired in the 1980s with the same title. The movie followed a retired black ops agent who tried to make his past sins right by fighting the bad guys. In the movie, Washington's character, Robert McCall, faces off with a Russian gang in order to save a young girl played by Chloe Grace Moretz.
