'Avatar 2' Release Date & Spoilers: Sigourney Weaver's Character Resurrected From Dead? Movie Promo Begins

Sigourney Weaver's character, Dr. Grace Augustine, died in the first movie, but she's definitely coming back in "Avatar 2," according to the latest spoilers. Meanwhile, the release date of the sequel is tentatively set in 2017.

Cinema Blend confirmed earlier spoilers that Sigourney Weaver will be returning to reprise her role as Dr. Grace Augustine in "Avatar 2."

As director James Cameron said, "Nobody dies in a science fiction movie."

"Less than three months after Avatar's release in 2009, it was confirmed that Dr. Augustine has a place in Avatar 2," the website said. "But the real reason will presumably be revealed in the sequel."

Even if there's no confirmation yet from Sigourney Weaver herself that she's coming back for "Avatar 2," Cinema Blend's spoilers pointed out that the actress has a very good relationship with James Cameron, dating back to the "Aliens" movie, which propelled her to stardom.

Going by that fact alone, Cinema Blend said that it's easy to "assume that she will be returning."

Although "Avatar" became the highest grossing film of all time after earning $2.788 billion in box office receipts, the release date for "Avatar 2" suffered from delays. (The second highest was also by James Cameron, "Titanic" which earned $2.186 billion).

In an earlier interview with ABC News, per Screenrant, James Cameron said, "There's a layer of complexity in getting the story to work as a saga across three films that you don't get when you're making a stand-alone film."

He said that he and his team have been writing "Avatar 2" and the subsequent two sequels "simultaneously."

"And we've done that so that everything tracks throughout the three films. We're not just going to do one and then make up another one and another one after that. And parallel with that, we're doing all the design. So we've designed all the creatures and the environments," he added.

The expected release date of "Avatar 3" is in 2018, or a year after "Avatar 2," while "Avatar 4" may be shown in 2019.
