Red Sox Prospect Bryce Brentz Has Gun Accident While Cleaning Weapon

Bryce Brentz, the 24-year-old Boston Red Sox outfield prospect accidently shot himself in the leg while cleaning his handgun last month.

General manager of the baseball team, Ben Cherington informed the media Saturday about the incident.

"He was at home cleaning a gun, and it accidentally went off," Cherington said. "He was injured in the process. Fortunately for him, it's something he's going to recover from and be fine."

The bullet passed through Brentz's left leg and due to his injury will be joining the major league camp once he is completely healed.

"I think he understands he got lucky. It's a serious thing and he has to be careful. He's here in Fort Myers and he's recovering and it's not going to get in the way of his future, but he won't be in big league camp," Cherington said.

Brentz tweeted on Saturday saying he would return to full practice Monday.
