Kate Upton appears to have split from her rumored boyfriend, Detroit Tigers pitcher, Justin Verlander.

This year's Sports Illustrated cover model told television station Fox 2 Detroit on Thursday that she did not have a significant other for Valentines Day.

"I'm single right now," Upton said.

So, as many single men are probably wondering, what does Kate Upton look for in a boyfriend?

"I think it's not on what a guy does, but who they are," Upton told American Idol host Ryan Seacrest on his radio show "On Air With Ryan Seacrest" on Thursday.

Being a professional athlete doesn't seem to hurt either. In addition to Verlander, Upton has also been linked romantically to New York Jets quarterback, Mark Sanchez.

This is the second consecutive year that the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue has featured a Kate Upton cover.

The nontraditional choice of Antarctica over warmer climates for the steamy cover photo led to some difficult conditions for Upton, as she told the magazine Life and Style Weekly.

"My body was shutting it down," said Kate, who sports an open jacket and white bikini bottom in the cover shot. "It was working so hard to keep warm. The penguins kept me going. They're adorable."
