Oscar Pistorius Reports To Authorities In Accordance With Bail Terms

Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius reported to the South African authorities in agreement with his bail terms in the murder case against him.

The double-amputee runner who, last summer was an inspirational story all around the world, is now being accused of murdering his girlfriend.

The gold medalist of the Summer 2012 Paralympics is being accused of shooting Reeva Steenkamp on February 14 of this year.

"Oscar did present himself to the necessary authorities this morning," Lunice Johnston told The Associated Press.

Pistorius was released on bail Friday at one million rand, which is $113,000 USD.  He was forced to hand in his passport and any other gun.

Prosecutors said the duo had an argument before Steenkamp was killed. Pistorius is saying he mistook her for an intruder and shot her by mistake.

He was staying at the home of his uncle, Arnold, in the affluent suburb of Waterkloof in Pretoria. He has been living there for the being because he is not allowed to be near his home in a gated-community of the capital of South Africa, Pretoria.

Both the prosecutors and defendants said four shots were fired from the bathroom in the runner's home.  The prosecutor claimed it was a premeditated murder when Pistorius put on his prosthetic legs, walked to the bathroom and intentionally shot his wife through the door. Pistorius claimed the girlfriend was on the bed and when going into the bathroom without putting the prosthetic legs on, he thought an intruder entered.

Pistorius made history by being the first amputee runner to compete at an Olympic games after failing to do so in 2008.

He did not place in the 400 meters event and didn't have an opportunity to go 4 X 400 meters relay because his teammate fell and injured himself before it was Pistorius turn to go.

The honor of carrying your countries flag was bestowed upon Pistorius for the 2012 Summer Paralympics. He carried his native South Africa flag, leading the way for his country in the opening ceremony. Sponsors, including Nike, flocked to Pistorius.

In 2009, Pistorius was arrested and charged with common assault for slamming a door on a woman.  Those charges were later dropped.

The next court appearance for Pistorius is June 4, 2013. He is being trialed for premeditated murder against Reeva Steenkamp.
