'The Lion King' Inspires American Idol Contestant Zoanette Johnson [VIDEO]

One of "American Idol's" most unique and talented contestants, Zoanette Johnson, wowed both the judges and the audience with her version of "The Lion King's" "Circle of Life" Wednesday night.

"The Lion King" number, written by Elton John, was Johnson's choice for the sudden death round in Wednesday night's competition. Traditionally Broadway songs have not been well-received on "American Idol," now in its twelfth season on FOX.

Johnson said she was inspired by her past when she selected the song. As a child she was an enormous fan of the "The Lion King" soundtrack and also spent some of her childhood in Liberia.

The aspiring recording artist and contestant on the singing competition reality show, not only received a standing ovation, but also got rave reviews from the show's judges.

Nicki Minaj was moved to tears and said to Johnson after the performance, "Zoanette. Who gone check you boo? You just served. You make me so emotional because when I think of you coming from Liberia and all of those siblings, I am so proud of you." Minaj went on to say, "I don't care what people say about you. You're unforgettable. I love you because that song was such a smart choice because it matches who you are."

Judge Keith Urban said after his standing ovation, "Forget the king of the jungle. Kudos to the queen of the jungle. Hail to the queen."

And even veteran judge Randy Jackson had words of encouragement for the 20-year-old singer saying it wasn't about the notes she sang, but rather the conviction with which she sang. "America. Zoanette showed you right there tonight. That spirit. We're not all up here preaching. That spirit that you have is what it's really about. It's infectious," said Jackson. "It isn't even if the notes are right on. This is happening. She's bringing it."

Even Mariah Carey applauded the young singer's talent and spirit. "I am so proud and happy for you. I feel like you're a very giving person. So yay, Zoanette darling," said Carey.

With the successful "The Lion King" performance behind her, Zoanette Johnson was passed through to the next round.

"American Idol" airs on FOX Wednesday and Thursday nights at 8 p.m. EST.
