Anderson Cooper Defends Hathaway After Intense Criticism Following Best Actress Oscars Win; Cooper Claims Anne Is ‘Lovely’

Anderson Cooper defends Hathaway after the Best Supporting Actress Oscar winner for Les Miserables was criticized for her ‘horrible’ acceptance speech and last-minute dress.

Cooper defended Hathaway, and stated that he didn’t understand why people seem to hate Anne Hathaway as much as they do.

Cooper went on to defend the 30-year-old actress as incredibly talented, and said that how people seem to judge her really upset him.

Cooper said, “In our morning meeting today, we were talking about this and the level of hatred people have towards Anne Hathaway; I had no idea. She seems like a perfectly lovely person.”

“I don’t understand. She’s incredibly talented; she seems like a lovely person, I think she’s been through a lot. People have all these judgments about her; they don’t know what she’s really like…it upset me,” he continued.

On a recent episode of Anderson Live hosted by Anderson Cooper, Cooper’s co-host said that Anne Hathaway’s award speech was “terrible”.

The remark spurred Cooper to argue that Hathaway got up on the stage, made eye contact, and remembered the names of everyone she wanted to thank without a cue care, all impressive feats when in the midst of such an overwhelming situation.

Hathaway has indeed received a great deal of criticism for her mannerisms, award speech, and dress choice for the Academy Awards.

Twitter users commented, “I don't know why but Anne Hathaway really pisses me off,” and “I'm trying to pay attention in class but all I can think about is how horrible Anne Hathaway is.”

On his show, Anderson Cooper continued to defend the star, adding that he felt as if he had just woken up and realized that the entire universe was attacking Anne Hathaway, prompting him to defend her.
