V Festival Expected To Sell Out Today; Beyoncé And Kings Of Leon Headline

V Festival is expected to sell out today.

The annual music festival held in the United Kingdom since 1996, might sell out soon today as big stars are set to take the stage this summer.

Every year since '96, one weekend in August is devoted to the festival. It started as generally a rock show, but has grown to all different genres.

Beyoncé and Kings of Leon headline the two shows that take place at Hylands Park in Chelmsford, and Weston Park in Staffordshire. Half the artists perform at one of the venues on Saturday and swap for Sunday.

More artists will be announced as the possible sell out gets closer and closer, according to the festival's website. Joining Beyoncé and Kings of Leon so far are winners of this year's Grammy Awards, FUN. Rising hip-hop artist Kendrick Lamar will take the stage as well. Other names include Jessie J, Jason Mraz, Calvin Harris and The Script

Over the past 17 years, over 1,000 artists and bands performed at the V Festival, making it one of the most well-known festivals every year.

Like any other festival, controversies surround it at times.

BBC News reported that during the 2009 V Festival, 800 of 85,000 in attendance were injured.

"Cases have mostly been falls resulting in strains, sprains, bruises and ankle injuries," an ambulance spokesperson told BBC News.

During that same year, Oasis was set to headline the event, but was forced to withdraw due to an illness.

Last year, Dailymail.com reported that during Cher Llyod's performance, a bottle of urine was thrown at her. She would walk off the stage, but come back and try again.

"It's hard enough being up here, but it's not nice having bottles of p**s chucked at you," Llyod told the crowd.

Another bottle of urine was tossed her way, causing her to completely stop her set at the V Festival.

Critics accused the organizers of the concert of being greedy in 2006, fans weren't allowed to bring in water, but forced to by water by the crates inside. Some fans said they had to pay the same amount for water as they did for their ticket. In order to see who's performing where and when, the fans had to buy a program.

Every popular concert like the V Festival causes criticism, injuries and actions that may not come off as professional. But the festival will give another go when it's sold out in August.

The V Festival tweeted out a taste of what's coming in August following the announcement of the sell-out.
